Residents from across Legislative District 6 gathered in Annapolis on Monday to enjoy an evening with their representatives.

District 6 Night, hosted by Del. Ric Metzgar and state Sen. Johnny Ray Salling, began with a turkey dinner at the historic Governor Calvert House near the State House. Residents and businesspeople from across Dundalk and Essex mingled, and they were able to voice their concerns directly to their elected officials.

Following the dinner portion, some attendees headed over to the State House, where the Maryland General Assembly sat in session on Monday night. Before the session convened at 8 p.m., Del. Metzgar’s Chief of Staff Paul M. Blitz gave a tour of the historic state capitol.

The Maryland State House is the oldest one in the country that is still being used. Saturated with history, it once served as the nation’s capitol. Benjamin Franklin designed the lightning rod on top of the dome. General George Washington resigned his commission as Commander-in-Chief in the Old Senate Chamber, where the Treaty of Paris was ratified.

After the tour, guests of District 6 Night were invited to sit in the legislative session for that night to see both Del. Metzgar and Sen. Salling in action.
