Wife of Mayor Adams' Crony Quietly Lands 180K Position in Job Not Made Public

    2024-08-09

The Post has uncovered that the spouse of a high-ranking NYPD official with strong connections to Mayor Eric Adams has been discreetly collecting a six-figure salary from a recently established position to which she was assigned almost two years ago.

According to her husband's recently submitted financial disclosure forms, Jasmine Sheppard was assigned to the $180,000 per year position of "chief communications strategy officer" at the Department of Youth & Community Development in November 2022.

The appointment of Sheppard to the new office and its existence were never made public by City Hall.

There was no posting or job description for the role on the internet. A job description was supplied by City Hall a day after the Post published the article. was published, stating that it had been posted on the NYC job site in July 2022. However, it did not include any documentation and none could be found online, according to the Post.

Last August, her husband, Tarik Sheppard, was named the Deputy Commissioner of Public Information for the police department, earning approximately $240,000 annually.

The Post reports that via a phone conversation, Tarik stated his wife, applied for a position vacated by someone.”

He told The Post, “The joke of it is that you guys continuously write stuff and your vetting process is very weak and we continue to show that. I don’t care what you write and neither does she,” he stated.

Under Adams' leadership, Tarik has shot up in the NYPD ranks, going from captain to deputy inspector, to deputy commissioner in just over a year and a half.

This is not the first time job appointments have been questioned under Adam's leadership. The City reported last year that Sharon Adams, the mayor's sister-in-law, landed a job as a “strategic initiative specialist” in the education department bringing in a $150,000 per year salary.
