July 29, 1949, in The Star: One of the most popular programs on Anniston’s local airwaves is a Tuesday night radio play series presented by a YMCA-sponsored group called the Y-Friars. Last Tuesday night the group [ shown in a picture on Page 6 ] produced a play centered primarily on Inspector Darby of Scotland Yard, portrayed by Allen Draper. Scripts for the series have been written by Mrs. Carleton Lentz of Anniston; she is a former journalist and the Inspector Darby series is her first production of radio scripts. Players or others connected with the series include WHMA radio announcer Bob Sanders, Anne Rhode, Jean Ruckert, Allen Draper, Joe Mims Jemison, Truman Donoho, Frank Bennett, Nellie Bennett, George Deyo and WHMA anouncer-engineer Lynn Stedham.

July 29, 1999, in The Star: Helping young doctors adjust from medical school to lives of daily medical practice is something that excites Dr. Neal “Buddy” Canup of Anniston, and with the revival of Regional Medical Center’s residency program he will have plenty of opportunities to tutor them. July 1 was the first day in eight years that patients at RMC were examined by two physicians — a young one with a sharp recall of the newest medical knowledge, and a more seasoned one with experience and a soothing bedside manner. Canup was the director of RMC’s previous residency program throughout its existence, from 1976 to 1991, and he pushed hard for its resurgence. Having a residency program, Dr. Canup said, places the hospital into a more prestigious category. In RMC’s case, the residency program will focus solely on family practice and take three years to complete.
