Aug. 1, 1949, in The Star: Anniston’s Teen Canteen currently counts 285 boys and girls as members, as they enjoy the facility’s opportunities for wholesome recreation and a place to meet and chat with friends. With an average of more than 100 visitors a day, six days a week, the Teen Canteen operates under the direction of A. F. Self and Miss Margaret Griffis, who has been assisted this summer by Miss Eloise Reynolds while Miss Griffis works on her master’s degree at Columbia University in New York. The Canteen operates its own snack bar where teen-agers gather to drink soft drinks and munch on snacks. Teen Canteen was organized in December 1944 and members dues are set at 50 cents every six months. The Community Chest contributes generously to the Canteen.
