CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - A Heat Advisory has been extended into Mecklenburg County as the Carolinas continue to be beat down with intense heat. In addition to Mecklenburg County, the advisory is in effect for Anson, Richmond, Stanly and Union counties in North Carolina, and Chesterfield County in South Carolina.

MONROE, N.C. — Billy Frank Smith, 89, passed away on Friday, July 12, 2024. He was born in Anson County, N.C. on Jan. 15, 1935 to the late James Alfred Smith and Ula Pope Smith. He is also preceded in death by his wife of over forty years, Wanda Hunter Smith; three brothers, Warren, Conway, and Ray; four sisters, Nancy, Margaret, Maxine, and Willine; and two grandchildren, Erin Roberts, and Christy Roberts.
