(FOX40.COM) — Deputies are asking the publics help in identifying a group of juveniles that are responsible for detonating an explosive underneath a Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office vehicle on Thursday night, according to the sheriff’s office.

Calls were made to the sheriff’s office on Thursday night about a group of unsupervised juveniles that were throwing mortars and Molotov cocktails at oncoming traffic near Heartland Drive and Teotom Park Way in Antelope.

Two men found dead in Northern California river on Fourth of July, officials say

When deputies arrived at the scene the majority of the group attempted to run on foot and some were detained. One of the detained juveniles was found to have a handgun and was arrested.

As deputies were pursing the group, one of the juveniles detonated a mortar round under an unmarked sheriff’s vehicle.

The explosion caused significant damage to the vehicle, but the deputy inside was not injured.

Those with information about this incident are advised to call the sheriff’s office at 916-874-5115.
