Following a one year review of Oregon's early literacy education, a state council has released its final recommendations to strengthen educator preparation programs for teaching reading and writing in Oregon elementary schools. For nearly a month, the harvesting of shellfish on the Oregon coast has slowed to a crawl as mussels, clams and oysters have been inundated with toxins that cause paralytic shellfish poisoning in humans. Oregon Congresswoman introduces bill to provide disaster relief to farmworkers
U.S. Rep. Andrea Salinas of Oregon wants farmworkers to be eligible for disaster relief money when they lose wages during disasters and public health emergencies like the COVID-19 pandemic or 2021 heat wave that killed more than 100 Oregonians. Madras sweeps NW Willow Creek Homeless Camp, where as many as 50 once lived
The City of Madras, taking a proactive stance, swept the NW Willow Creek Homeless Camp on Tuesday. Dedicated crews were on hand to assist homeless residents in their relocation and clean up the area. It follows concerns that trash and feces were causing the creek to become contaminated. The city said it cleaned 80,000 pounds of garbage, including human feces.
