Old vs. new buildings: School board candidates debate costs, options
ANTIGO — Five of six candidates running for the Antigo School Board in the April 2 election suggested Wednesday that it will likely be less expensive to construct a new school building than to continue financing updates to the city’s three existing elementary schools. The candidates took turns speaking about several issues at a well-attended meet-and-greet session in the banquet room of Northstar Lanes. The five candidates who introduced themselves...
Red Robin Chronicles: March school district update
Did you know that the Antigo School district performance is partially measured by our Junior level students’ ACT scores? Our 11th grade students work hard to prepare for the ACT by practicing covered content in core classes leading up to the test date, firming up their writing skills and by building their testing endurance and stamina. A practice test is administered prior to the test date in a small setting with an assigned proctor. ...
Correction
In Wednesday’s article about William’s House of Hope there were two errors. It was mistakenly reported that the Sage Sisters raised $1,060 for William’s House of Hope — they actually raised $1,660. Also, the last name of the group’s president was misspelled as “Barren.” It should have been spelled as “Barron.” The Antigo Journal apologizes for the errors.

Fighting for the kids: Locals fighting to end childhood cancer
ANTIGO — In the summer of 2017, Eli Kassler seemed for all the world to be a normal, healthy kid. He was more than healthy, at just 11 years old, playing for an elite hockey club in Minnesota. He could score goals in bunches. Marcus Novy, the head coach of the Milwaukee Junior Admirals, coached him in several all-star games, and called him the most talented player in all of Wisconsin. Out of the blue that August, though, Corrie Kassler, Eli’s mother, became aware of...

The day before the event, however, Bussey, the manager of Farmer’s Home restaurant, realized the number of seniors who had signed up for the meal at the rapidly-expanding Senior Center had grown too large for she and her staff to serve without reinforcements. ...
Pierce replaces himself on library board to bring discord to temporary close
ANTIGO — At its monthly meeting Monday, the Langlade County Board approved a motion by Chairman Ben Pierce to replace himself on the Antigo Public Library’s Board of Trustees, bringing about a disquieting, perhaps temporary end to several contentious weeks that began with a disagreement over the library’s budget. The county holds authority to appoint five members on the library’s nine-seat board, and prior to Monday’s meeting, many assumed Pierce would move to replace two of those members, Ken Shestak and Moira Scupien, whose terms...
Forage production workshop set for March 6
ANTIGO — Whether feeding beef cattle, dairy cattle, or sheep and goats, the key to a livestock farm’s profitability is its ability to raise high-quality, low-cost forages. The weather patterns of early 2024 may be creating problems for overwintering perennials and may necessitate other forage production plans to be in place for the upcoming growing season. Farms in the area have an opportunity to expand their forage opportunities and learn more about optimum management of forages on Wednesday, March 6. ...
