Parking fines increased in the downtown area
ANTIGO — At its meeting Wednesday night, the Antigo City Council voted 8-0 to approve an ordinance change to raise parking fines both for vehicles that overstay one or two-hour parking limits downtown and illegally park in handicapped spaces. The new ordinance increases fines from $3 to $25 for vehicles that overstay two-hour parking limits downtown from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday through Saturday. Fines will increase to $35 if not paid within 48 hours. ...
Bauknecht officially appointed as mayor
ANTIGO — Fourth Ward Alderman Tom Bauknecht was sworn in as the mayor of Antigo at Wednesday night’s city council meeting. Bauknecht takes over the post from Terry Brand, who resigned roughly two weeks ago, citing his family’s planned move to Summit Lake, as well as health complications being dealt with in the family. First responders recognized for saving man’s life
ANTIGO — At the beginning of Wednesday night’s city council meeting, Antigo Fire Chief Corey Smith awarded commendations to several first responders in his department for saving a patient’s life during a recent transport. Paramedics Laura Palmer and Brian Baginski, as well as EMT Matthew Sitte, received commendations for saving the life of a man that suffered a cardiac arrest while they were transporting him from Aspirus Langlade Hospital to Aspirus Wausau. ...
Man involved in standoff appears in court
ANTIGO — Tuesday afternoon, 17 separate charges were filed against the Antigo man involved in the standoff with police last week Tuesday near the Langlade County Safety Building and Courthouse. North Woods Summer Art Tour set for July 26
The Northwoods long awaited summer is here (most days), so that means the North Woods Summer Art Tour is coming soon. Wisconsin’s finest artists will open their doors to their studios and galleries for visitors Friday July 26 through Sunday 28 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. This unique, self-directed studio tour in Vilas, Oneida, Iron, and Lincoln counties offers a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the creative process firsthand by visiting artist studios, interacting with creators, and witnessing their craft come to life. Brochures, studio descriptions, driving directions, and a map are available at area businesses, chambers of commerce, and online at northwoodsarttour.com. The tour is free to all. The Art Tour began in 2000 featuring 20 artists. This year’s tour has 44 artists at 35 studios. Guests will find unique items for gifts and for inspiration to elevate their spirits. Hyland Lakes Lions continue legacy with Jack Lake project
DEERBROOK — The Hyland Lakes Lions Club dedicated a new community grill area at Veterans Memorial Park at Jack Lake Saturday, completing its legacy project in honor of Lions International’s 100th year.
