( KRON ) — Several Fourth of July celebrations were canceled due to fears of fire amid the Bay Area’s most recent heat advisory. Antioch, Healdsburg, and St. Helena have postponed their celebrations, with several neighboring cities following suit as well.

On Tuesday, Antioch canceled its entire Fourth of July parade following an excessive heat warning. Firework celebrations are still set to happen.

The city said aside from the parade, the rest of its celebrations past 6 p.m. are still on schedule in Rivertown. Fireworks celebrations are set to start at 9:15 p.m.

The heat advisory is said to last till July 10 at 11:00 p.m.

    St. Helena

The City of St. Helena has made “the difficult decision” to postpone its fireworks show to a later date in the year “when conditions are more favorable,” the city said in a statement.

“We know how disappointing this may be for many in our community,” the city said, citing extremely high temperatures and very dry conditions for postponing its celebrations.

The city said it plans to continue with its other 4th of July events.

    Healdsburg

With a Red Flag Warning in place for parts of Sonoma County and multiple fire incidents in the region, Healdsburg postponed its fireworks celebrations amid growing fire concerns.

“We know this may be disappointing to some, but the safety of our community is our top priority,” the city said in their statement.

Healdsburg said it would only postpone its fireworks celebrations. The city said it plans to continue with its other Fourth of July events.

City officials said a recent surge in fires in Northern California would make fire officials in Healdsburg understaffed if any fears of a fire had been sparked locally.

On Wednesday, the city of Oroville also canceled its Fourth of July fireworks celebrations amid firefighters battling the Thompson fire.
