Tractor Supply announced it would eliminate its diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives and carbon emissions goals.

The company posted a statement on Saturday indicating it would "stop sponsoring nonbusiness activities like pride festivals and voting campaigns," instead choosing to focus on employee development and "rural American priorities," including agriculture, animal welfare and veterans.

The shift comes after a right-wing commentator drew attention to the company's stance on LGBTQ+ rights and its diversity initiatives.

“We have heard from customers that we have disappointed them,” the company said. “We have taken this feedback to heart.”

Here's what to know about Tractor Supply's decision and store locations in Arizona.

Why are people mad at Tractor Supply?

Several weeks ago, conservative commentator Robby Starbuck posted on X, formerly Twitter, calling out the company's stances on LGBTQ+ rights; its efforts to decrease or offset carbon emissions; and its diversity, equity and inclusion policies.

"I take no pleasure in bringing this all to light. I’m a Tennessean who loves to support TN companies but as a proud Tennessean I know these woke priorities don’t align with our state or @TractorSupply ’s customer base," Starbuck posted on X.

He encouraged followers to call Tractor Supply's corporate offices and stop buying from Tractor Supply.

Closing shop: These major chains are closing stores across the US. Are any Arizona locations affected?

    What is Tractor Supply changing?

In its statement, Tractor Supply's indicated it would:

    1. No longer submit data to the Human Rights Campaign.
    2. Refocus its team member engagement groups on mentoring, networking and supporting the business.
    3. Further focus on rural American priorities including agricultural education, animal welfare, veteran causes and being a good neighbor. Stop sponsoring nonbusiness activities like pride festivals and voting campaigns.
    4. Eliminate DEI roles and DEI goals.
    5. Withdraw carbon emission goals and focus on land and water conservation efforts.
