    5 running for 3 Apache Junction Unified School District Governing Board seats

    Bill Kell, Sandra Leen, Judy Williamson and incumbents Gilbert Cancio and Cami Garcia met the July 8 filing deadline to run for the position of Apache Junction Unified School District Governing Board for a four-year term and will appear on the general ballot.

    The 2024 General Election is Tuesday, Nov. 5, with the voter registration deadline Oct. 7.

    AJUSD has three elementary schools, a junior high school and a high school. The district is from Meridian Road on the west to the town of Queen Valley on the east and from the Goldfield Mountains to the north, south into the San Tan Corridor. Communities served include Apache Junction, Gold Canyon, Peralta Trail, Queen Valley and unincorporated Pinal County land in-between.

    A total of 229 signatures were required to be filed with the Pinal County School Office by July 8 to run for three seats.

    The following are by candidate name and number of signatures filed. All five live in Apache Junction.

    • Gilbert Cancio, 272;
    • Cami Garcia, 401;
    • Bill Kell, 304;
    • Sandra Leen, 253;
    • Judy Williamson, 371.
