With the postseason now in full swing, it's time to look back at some of the top performers of the regular season. The first round of superlatives for the Shore's softball stars is to honor the top players by class, beginning with the star performers in their final season of high school softball.
The criteria for this ranking took into account statistical performance, level of competition and team success in addition to several other considerations. With so much talent, there are certainly many players with a valid case to be ranked even higher. But as is the case in a deep and talented league, only the best of the best could make the cut.
Below is the APP ranking of the top 25 seniors of the 2024 Shore softball season along with 25 honorable mention performers.
NEW POLL: Vote for the Softball Shore Conference Tournament MVP, sponsored by Larson Ford
1. BethAnne Doderer - P - Central Regional
Doderer has emerged as arguably the most valuable player in the entire Shore. Central is 16-2 and won the highly competitive A-South Division. The star senior has been outstanding leading the way for the Golden Eagles, leading the team in both RBIs with 31 and home runs with eight while also batting .453. On the mound, she has posted a 1.18 ERA with 170 strikeouts.
2. Elena Weinseimer - OF - Manasquan
The Warriors have sought out the toughest competition this season and Weinseimer has led the way for her team. She is batting .507 this spring with a team-high 22 RBIs and 10 home runs. The stellar senior will continue her softball career at Harvard.
3. Peyton Gallagher - IF - Toms River East
Gallagher has been outstanding for the Raiders this spring, closing out a terrific career as she took her game to another level. She has 31 RBIs and seven home runs while batting .400 as Toms River East made a run to the Ocean County Tournament final.
4. Giuliana Cardin - OF - St. John Vianney
Cardin is yet another senior that has taken her game to a new level in her final season. The entire Lancers lineup provides plenty of challenges for opposing teams, but Cardin has delivered in a big way with a .485 batting average in addition to 26 RBIs and four home runs.
5. Bella Plath - IF - Raritan
The Rockets have benefitted from a really terrific class of seniors, and Plath is the offensive focal point. She has a team-high 29 RBIs while batting .476 this spring. She's also been a key piece of the stout defense for Raritan. She'll continue her collegiately in-state with D-I Fairleigh Dickinson.
6. Jordan Terefenko - C - Red Bank Catholic
There are so many outstanding underclassmen for the Caseys, but the leadership and talent of their seniors has been key to their incredible 20-2 season. Terefenko is batting .485 with 21 RBIs and four home runs this spring.
7. Brielle Coppola - P - Wall
The Crimson Knights have had to battle all season, and their success is undoubtedly rooted in the incredible talent of their senior pitcher. Coppola has a 1.60 ERA with 169 strikeouts on the mound in addition to being the team's top offensive threat with 21 RBIs and four home runs in addition to batting .386.
8. Scarlett O’Hea - OF - Raritan
First and foremost, O'Hea is a really incredible athlete in the outfield for Raritan's defense. That athleticism translates to the batter's box, where she's batting .446 with 26 RBIs for the Rockets.
9. Morgan O’Sullivan - P - Red Bank Catholic
O'Sullivan doesn't necessarily have the flash of some other pitchers, but she is lethally efficient on the mound. She has 0.94 ERA over 52 innings of work with 79 strikeouts.
10. Amy Fitzpatrick - OF - Marlboro
Marlboro has struggled to replicate last year's success because of injuries this season, but Fitzpatrick has again delivered offense at a tremendous pace. She is batting .449 with a team-high 21 RBIs along with one home run.
11. Georgia Tym - C - Point Pleasant Boro
What Tym provides defensively is so unique, it really can't be overstated. Her ability to throw out runners on steals and pick offs is unlike any other catcher in the Shore. It also helps that she's batting .389 with 16 RBIs for the Panthers. She'll continue her softball career at East Stroudsburg.
12. Emily Kurth - IF - Donovan Catholic
The Griffins are mostly propelled by their youth movement, but in big games their star senior has delivered. Kurth is batting .440 with 16 RBIs and one home run this spring, but much of that clutch hitting has been in big games like this past week's matchup with Livingston.
13. Ryann Healey - P - Matawan
The Huskies have surged to a 12-5 record this season and their senior pitcher has been the backbone of that success. She is batting .441 with 26 RBIs and six home runs, all of which lead the team. On the mound, she has a solid 3.10 ERA with 101 strikeouts.
14. Abigail Zebick - IF - Red Bank Catholic
Again, RBC benefits immensely from having reliable seniors complimented by ultra-talented underclassmen. Zebick is a dangerous hitter that can go yard at any moment, posting 18 RBIs and five home runs this spring.
15. Riley Lawrence - SS - Shore Regional
The Blue Devils have stayed competitive in the brutal A-Central, and it all starts with the talents of their multi-sport senior. Lawrence is batting .516 with 16 RBIs and two home runs in addition to 19 stolen bases.
16. Sienna Smith - OF - Freehold Township
Freehold Township continues to display their tenacity with several upset wins and the Patriots' senior leadership is a major reason. Smith has been the team's most reliable hitter, leading the team with a .410 batting average, 20 runs scored and 25 stolen bases.
17. Emily Ehrmann - IF - Point Pleasant Boro
Ehrmann is a similar player to Smith in terms of reliability. She's batting .462 with 12 RBIs and a team-high 22 runs scored.
18. Hannah Wiener - IF - Jackson Memorial
The Jaguars have not kept the same pace as in their 2023 campaign, but they've held steady in a difficult division and this senior's offense is a key reason. Wiener is hitting .443 with 21 RBIs and two home runs this spring.
19. Molly Peters - 3B - Raritan
Peters is yet another stellar Raritan senior that has delivered in big ways this season. She rounds out the trio of seniors that lead the Rockets in RBIs with 28 (second on the team) this season in addition to being an elite defensive player on the hot corner.
20. Danika Borza - UT - Keyport
It can be difficult to evaluate the level of performance in B-Central, but Borza has shouldered the offensive load for her team during her entire career. She took that to a new level this season with 31 RBIs and is only four away from 100 for her career. She's also batting .457 with three home runs.
21. Jamison Hogan - P - Barnegat
The Bengals have made major strides this season and it all starts with the play of Hogan. She has a 2.12 ERA with 114 strikeouts and was also efficient in the batter's box with a .370 average and seven RBIs.
22. Sophia Capasso - C - Central Regional
The pitcher-catcher duo of the Eagles has also been the foundation of their offensive production. Capasso is batting .441 this spring with 16 RBIs, second-highest after Doderer.
23. Jordyn Gautier - OF - St. John Vianney
The Lancers are primarily propelled by their underclassmen statistically, but the leadership and consistency have been a key element to the team's dominance. Gautier exemplifies that with 21 RBIs and a .393 batting average this spring.
24. Talia Duralek - UT - Southern
The Rams are another team that benefits from the solid production and leadership of their seniors while also having many talented underclassmen. Duralek has come through in big spots this season while batting .371 with 18 RBIs and one homer.
25. Giana Abinanti - P - Freehold Borough
Freehold Boro is so reliant on Abinanti, it's hard to imagine where the team would be without her. She has a 2.02 ERA this spring with 131 strikeouts. She's also a big game hunter at the plate, as demonstrated by her team-high 17 RBIs and three home runs.
