The Sauce Pizzeria in Oceanport gets its grade from One Bite Pizza Reviews

It's high marks for The Sauce Pizzeria.

Following a late July stop at the Oceanport pizzeria , pizza reviewer Dave Portnoy awarded the restaurant an 8.1 out of 10.

"Looks good, right up my alley, the type of pizza I (like)," he said before taking a bite. "Really good. Good stuff."

The visit came in the early afternoon, right after co-owner Jason Enger had gone out for a short break following a busy lunch service. He hurried back and chatted with Portnoy, who as the founder of One Bite Pizza Reviews on YouTube has reviewed more than 1,000 pizzerias nationwide — including many at the Shore .

Enger said he had hoped for a higher score, "but at the end of the day ... what more can you ask for?"

"It's been a dream come true," he said of the effect of Portnoy's visit, which led to a spike in business even before the review posted Thursday night. "Sales are up 20, 30 percent."

The Sauce's score is the highest to come from Portnoy's most recent trip to Monmouth County, which included stops at Alternate Ending Beer Co. in Aberdeen, whose Detroit-style pizza earned a 7.2 ; Salerno's Pizzeria & Restaurant in Hazlet, whose plain pizza earned a 7.3 ; Gigi's New York Style Pizza in Sea Bright, which earned a 7.4; and Zachary's Restaurant in Long Branch. The latter review hasn't yet been released.

At the Shore, his highest scores so far are Brooklyn Square in Jackson, which received an 8.9 in 2020; Federici's Family Restaurant in Freehold Borough, which received an 8.8 in 2020; and Nunzio's Pizzeria & Italian Restaurant in Long Branch, (now under new ownership) which earned an 8.6 in 2021.
