    NJ rain totals: Here's how much it rained this weekend; Rip current risks at Jersey Shore

    Heavy rain this weekend flooded many roads, collapsed a Newark building's roof, and forced many drivers to abandon their cars on the road as the water level rose too high.

    Morris, Essex and Somerset counties got the most rain. Morristown Airport in Morris County registered the highest amount of rainfall, with 5.6 inches of precipitation there.

    The National Weather Service had predicted 2 inches of rain for much of the region, but some areas got more than double the forecasted amount.

    NWS issues coastal flood advisory, rip current statement

    There remains a high rip current risk caused by the remnants of tropical storm Ernesto. The rip currents should be active until Monday evening, NWS said.

    A coastal flooding advisory was also issued. Up to 6 inches of inundation above ground level is possible in low lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways in Gloucester County, Camden County and the northwestern part of Burlington County.
