Two sobriety checkpoints are planned on major highways coming from the Jersey Shore this weekend, according to the Monmouth County DWI Task Force.

The first checkpoint will be on Route 35 in Neptune City from 10 p.m. Friday to 2 a.m. Saturday, said Allenhurst Police Chief Michael Schneider, who is the county’s task force coordinator.

The second checkpoint will be on Route 138 in Wall from 10 p.m. Saturday to 2 a.m. Sunday, Schneider said.

In Neptune City, all northbound traffic on Route 35 will be diverted at the Steiner Avenue intersection. Law enforcement officers will be speaking with motorists to make certain they are not intoxicated, he said.

In Wall, all westbound traffic on Route 138 will be diverted onto Maxell Road, where drivers there will also be screened for their sobriety, the chief said.

“As always, the task force hopes all drivers will be responsible and use either a designated driver or an alternative means of transportation — taxi or ride sharing option — if they plan on drinking this coming weekend," Schneider said.
