FREEHOLD A Red Bank man has been charged in a hit-and-run crash that left one pedestrian dead in Shrewsbury, Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago said Friday.

Jose Rodriguez-Jimenez, 40, was charged with one count of second-degree knowingly leaving the scene of an accident under certain circumstances, Santiago said.

Shortly after 2:45 a.m. on August 5, Shrewsbury Police responded to a 911 call for an unresponsive male lying on Shrewsbury Avenue, in the right northbound lane, Santiago said. The pedestrian, later identified as 23-year-old Mariano Codallos-Tepepa of Brick, was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.

An investigation into the collision determined that Codallos-Tepepa was struck by a Ford Econoline van, driven by Rodriguez-Jimenez, Santiago said. Rodriguez-Jimenez did not stop at the time of the accident at the scene, nor did he report the collision to law enforcement, authorities said.
