Heatwave Hot Yoga opens in Belmar; car wash still undecided in Brick

Heatwave Hot Yoga has recently opened on Main Street in Belmar.

The studio, co-owned by Ariana Speranza and Michael McCabe, is located at 1108 Main St., which was formerly Fran's Painted Furniture.

Speranza said she and McCabe wanted to bring "community back into the yoga world."

"We wanted to create a space where people can walk into the lobby area, sit down, make connections, make friends and not just go to someplace where they just work out and go home," Speranza said. "People were asking for a new space that was just welcoming and really embodies the yoga community and we took the challenge and we opened up the studio."

With a roster of 12 teachers, including Speranza, Heatwave Hot Yoga is open seven days a week with a maximum of four classes a day. Check out Heatwave Hot Yoga's website for more information .

Out and about

There's no decision yet on an application to turn the old Pizza Hut restaurant on Brick Boulevard in Brick into a new location for Hang 10 Car Wash , a chain of car wash stops where you can wash your ride and your pooch.

Cornerstone South Brick LLC has proposed to redevelop the former Pizza Hut at 320 Brick Blvd. and replace it with a drive-thru car wash and dog wash. The car wash also will have 23 vacuum stations, according to documents filed with the township's planning office.

An earlier Zoning Board of Adjustment hearing has been carried until Sept. 18. It will need an exception from zoning rules as car washes are not a permitted use in that area of Brick Boulevard, which is next to Lake Shore Drive and the Lake Riviera residential neighborhood.
