At least two sobriety checkpoints are planned at the Jersey Shore this Labor Day weekend, according to the Monmouth County DWI Task Force.

The first one will be tonight in Marlboro. The checkpoint will be in place on Route 9 in the township from 9 p.m. Friday to 1 a.m. Saturday.

The second one will be at the municipal boundaries of Spring Lake, Wall and Spring Lake Heights. This checkpoint is expected to take place on Route 71 from 10 p.m. Saturday to 2 a.m. Sunday, all according to Allenhurst Police Chief Michael Schneider, the county’s DWI task force coordinator.

In Marlboro, all northbound motor vehicles on Route 9 will be diverted into the Crunch Fitness gym parking lot, where law enforcement officers will interact with drivers to make certain they are not intoxicated, Schneider said.

In southern coastal Monmouth County, all southbound vehicles on Route 71 will be diverted into the parking lot of a park near Third Avenue, at the municipal boundary between Wall and Spring Lake, where drivers there will also be screened for their sobriety, he said.

“The task force hopes all motorists will be responsible, especially this holiday weekend, when typically DWI arrests are more common due to the celebratory nature of the weekend,” Schneider said.
