FARMINGDALE - There is an active police investigation at a recycling facility in the borough.

A medical examiner and about a half-dozen New Jersey State Police detectives were at the scene on Wednesday.

The Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office referred all media questions to the State Police, which provides municipal police services to the borough.

However, Farmingdale Mayor James A. Daly said the State Police and the Prosecutor’s Office were working on the scene together, though he did not elaborate on what had happened Wednesday.

“The Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office has been investigating alongside the New Jersey State Police all afternoon,” Daly said. “A statement will be made available by the Prosecutor’s Office when they have completed the investigation.”

The recycling facility at 15 Railroad Avenue is operated by Republic Services.
