Oro Solido, DJ Carolina bringing Jersey, international flavor to Latin Fest in Lakewood

Viva Mexico, but everyone — including the kids — is invited to the Latin Fest Celebrando la Independencia Sunday, Sept. 15, at Maggie's Bar and Grill in Lakewood.

The day will mark Mexican Independence Day, which is Monday, Sept. 16, and Latin American pride.

“It's for everyone, not just one community specifically," said promoter Roberto Vargas of Lakewood.

Jersey City merengue legends Oro Solido, hot Central American selector and influencer DJ Carolina, and Banda EKA Norteña from New York City are the headliners. Deejays Leo Nation, Kazzanova, Chamo, Factory, RG1, Untouchable and Kamuflaje will provide the Latin beats.

“Most of the people came to our parties 10 years ago and now they have kids,” Vargas said. “We're keeping up with where the culture is in music so it's a kid-friendly event with clowns, inflatables, a mechanical bull and more. We're excited.”

The inclusion of DJ Carolina makes the all-day outdoor event a rare international happening for the Jersey Shore.

“We're flying her in from El Salvador,” Vargas said. “She's widely known with the Central American crowd.”

Vargas will be donning the headphones for the event — he's known as DJ Kamuflaje when he's in the deejay booth.

“It's in my blood,” Vargas said. “That's what I do because I love it. It's a passion.”
