RED BANK — A pedestrian in the borough was struck and killed Tuesday afternoon by a NJ Transit train traveling from New York to Long Branch, according to an agency spokesman.

“North Jersey Coast Line service is temporarily suspended between Red Bank and Long Branch,” said John Chartier, director of media relations for NJ Transit.

North Jersey Coast Line 3241 departed Penn Station in Manhattan at 12:12 p.m. and was scheduled to arrive in Long Branch at 1:45 p.m., when the fatal incident happened at the Monmouth Street crossing in Red Bank about 2 p.m. Tuesday, Chartier said.

There were no reported injuries to the 25 passengers or crew on board, he said.

New Jersey Transit Police are on the scene and leading an investigation into the circumstances, Chartier said.

The victim was not publicly identified on Tuesday afternoon.
