NC woman charged with DUI, child endangerment
A North Carolina woman was arrested on several charges recently after, police said, she was found to be intoxicated with two children in her vehicle. According to the arrest citation written by Pikeville Police Officer Larry Thacker, on July 12, the department's dispatch received a call reporting a vehicle parked on North Mayo Trail in which two young children were passengers.
Man given 15 years in Pike man's death
A former Pike County man was sentenced to serve a total of 15 years for charges in connection with a 2020 death of a Pike County man in a Floyd County motel. Enos Little, 50, was sentenced to a total of 15 years. He received 10 years for second-degree assault and five years for conspiracy to kidnap. Little is also serving five years in an unrelated case in Pike County, which must be completed before he begins serving the Floyd County sentence.
EC continues to rebound
Elkhorn City Mayor Nathan Bryant provided an update on the steps the city has taken regarding an investigative report performed by the Kentucky Auditor of Public Accounts’ office during a special meeting July 11. That report highlighted several deficiencies within city government under former Mayor Mike Taylor’s administration.
Jury unable to reach verdict in murder case
After deliberating for 10 hours and reviewing several pieces of evidence, the jury which sat for the trial of a former assistant Pike County attorney reached an impasse. The case against Donald Kyle Deskins, who is accused of murder in connection with the death of his wife Judith Dawn Deskins at their Meathouse Road, Kimper, residence on April 24, 2001, went into its second week as the defense rested July 12. Closing arguments and jury instructions were presented the morning of July 15.
