Mayor’s Cup opens; Sutter hosts Rio Linda in 50th anniversary of first league title

The battle for Yuba City supremacy reopens tonight (Friday) when the Yuba City High football team heads a few blocks over on Colusa Avenue/State Highway 20 to tackle River Valley in the annual Mayor’s Cup. This year it is played at River Valley High School at 7:30 p.m.

While rivalries can be unpredictable at times, Yuba City has dominated River Valley in recent years, winning 16 of the last 18 matchups in the MaxPreps era. The Honkers have taken the last eight over the Falcons, including a 42-0 shellacking year ago. River Valley’s last win came in 2015, according to MaxPreps archives.
