The Apple Valley-based Victor Valley Museum has launched the pilot program "Quiet Hour" aimed at improving museum accessibility for people with sensory processing differences.

Each “Quiet Hour’ is offered from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on select Thursdays through mid-November.  During that time, guests will experience "a calmer and quieter museum," said staff, about the event at the San Bernardino County operated museum.

During this hour, some exhibit features will be turned off to minimize audio and visual stimulation. It may also be beneficial to anyone in search of a quieter museum experience, according to museum staff.

In the future, the museum will offer sensory bags that contain fidget toys and noise-dampening headphones available for check-out at the admissions desk.

“Our exhibits, programs, and events are developed with accessibility and our complete community in mind, so we are excited to launch this initiative, which will make visiting us easier for a large portion of our community,” said Curator of Education Eliana Zacarias.

The Quiet Hour begins at 10 a.m. on the following days:

    • Thursday, Aug. 29
    • Thursday, Sept. 12
    • Thursday, Sept. 26
    • Thursday, Oct. 10
    • Thursday, Oct. 24
