Rain dampens but doesn’t deter Freedom Days runners

5-mile, 2-mile races held July 4

Brennen Peterson of Rosemount and Stephanie Peterson of Apple Valley were the male and female winner in the 5-mile race at the Apple Valley Freedom Days Fun Run on July 4.

Winners in the 2-mile race were Samuel Sampers of Rosemount and Hadley Knight of Apple Valley.

Rain caused some of the Freedom Days events to be called off, but the runners pushed through. Seventy-seven ran the 2-mile and 56 completed the 5-mile.

Brennen Peterson, 21, a former Rosemount High School cross country and track and field athlete, finished the 5-mile race in 28 minutes, 30.9 seconds. Second was Bob Spain of Farmington in 28:47.4.

July 4 was a good day overall for Stephanie Peterson’s family. Not only was she the top female runner in the 5-mile in 37:28.1, her son Asher finished first in the male 9-and-under age group in the 2-mile.

Sampers, a 2024 Rosemount High School graduate who will wrestle at the University of Jamestown, won the 2-mile in 11:29.8, with 2024 Apple Valley High School grad Andrew Prochnow second in 11:35.9. Female winner in the 2-mile was Hadley Knight, who will be a junior at Eastview High in the fall and competes in cross country and track.
