YAKIMA CO., Wash. -- Astria Health in Toppenish will take part in the National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.
On Saturday, April 27 from 1 a.m. to 2 p.m. Astria Health will be collecting tablets, capsules, patches and other solid forms of prescription medication.
Anyone with unwanted or expired medicine can dispose of it safely at the drop box inside the Astria Sunnyside Hospital Emergency Room or outside the pharmacy at Astria Toppenish Hospital.
If you drop off medication it will be anonymous, no questions asked. It is also completely free.
Participating in Drug Take Back prevents accidental ingestion or misuse, including keeping away from kids and pets.
Since the beginning of National Drug Take Back Day, 8,950 tons of medication have been disposed of properly.
Free and anonymous disposal of unneeded drugs is available year-round at the Astria Sunnyside Hospital Emergency Room and outside of the Astria Toppenish Hospital pharmacy.
Collection sites will not accept syringes, sharps, and illicit drugs. Liquid products, such as cough syrup, should remain sealed in their original container.
