One dog died from smoke inhalation at Umatilla County house fire

UMATILLA CO., Ore. -- Umatilla County Fire District #1 said a dog died in a house fire from smoke inhalation Wednesday morning. No one else was hurt.

Fire agencies responded to the call for help just after 9:30 a.m. on Southwest 9th Street.

According to fire officials, when fire crews arrived to the scene smoke was coming from the eaves which told firefighters the blaze made it way to the attic space.

Fire officials said incident command instructed crews to take an offensive approach and battle the blaze from inside the home. Fire crews stretched hose lines into the home and coordinated ventilation with fire attack to control the fire.

Officials said when crews began to search the home to ensure there was no one inside, firefighters found a pet with smoke inhalation symptoms. Crews gave lifesaving aid to the dog but were unsuccessful. No one else was hurt.

Umatilla Rural Fire Protection District, Echo Fire Department and Pendleton Fire & Ambulance assisted in fighting the flames.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
