PASCO, Wash. – It's national nurses week May 6th through May 12 and the state of Washington is seeing a shortage of nurses at every level.

Officials at Columbia Basin College in Pasco told Apple Valley News Now that their nurse associate's degree program was one of the first they offered all the way back in the 1950s.

The nursing program director, Kim Tucker, said they're working to give future registered nurses a strong start.

“Once they're accepted into the nursing program, our foundation has scholarships for all of our nursing students that are in the program and so it really helps them with the cost of the program,” Tucker said, “We have support and disability support services. We have academic support services, lots of different resources, that kind of wrap around the students to help them be successful in the program.”

As of right now they can only accept 50 students into their program. But they are planning to expand.  Many of the graduates  stay right here in central Washington communities Tucker said.
