PASCO, Wash. – A day of remembrance and honoring those who served in the City of Pasco.

The ceremony included the Pledge of Allegiance, a wreath presentation and a moment of silence to remember those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for their country.

There was a flag raising ceremony and each branch of the military had its flag raised. Pasco Mayor Pete Serrano and State Senator Matt Boehnke said events like these are important to honor those who fought for our freedom.

“We have the values of our country for a reason. We have the freedoms and liberties for a reason. This is what it comes back to. I think this is the greatest holiday we should have in the world,” Senator Boehnke said. "It's not about picnics, it's not about going on the boat, not about going out and barbecue and all this stuff. It's about the family and friends who are hurting, but their sacrifice should never be forgotten.”

"We have the opportunity to celebrate those who have given the ultimate sacrifice, you know the gift of life so that you and I have our freedoms, and everyone here has the same freedoms," Mayor Serrano said.

"Never forget hearing from the World War II veteran who may not be with us in the next couple of weeks, and the next year," State Senator Boehnke said. "We'll never forget the memories of why you get up in the morning and fight for the great freedoms that we have."
