Department of Social and Health Services rolls into Kennewick with Mobile Office

KENNEWICK, Wash. — Just like Meals on Wheels rolls through the community providing resources, the Department of Social and Health Services ( DSHS ) team rolled into Kennewick to expand resources to people who can not travel to its building.

They parked in front of the Mid-Columbia Meals on Wheels Kennewick Dining Site, at 500 S. Auburn St., to share resources on their own wheels, with its Mobile Office .

“Pretty much anything they can do in the office, other than the social services side of it, they can do on the truck,” said program specialist Stephanie Edmondson with the DSHS.

The team has only been mobilizing with the office on wheels since last August.

“We're just trying to get into some of the rural and underserved communities in the state,” stated Edmondson, “So that clients, no matter where they're at, have access to our services.”

When it comes to those services, Edmondson said they are able to process applications for cash, medical and food benefits, complete reviews, report changes, ask questions or get a new EBT card.

Edmondson said she has heard people express appreciation when it comes to bringing the truck out into the community, to make things easier to access those services.

The next time the DSHS Mobile Office will be out in the Tri-Cities is Wednesday, Aug. 28 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at St. Vincent de Paul in Pasco, at 215 S. 6th Ave. Find the Mobile Office calendar here .
