    Phil Donahue, James Darren, 'Famous Amos' founder among newsmakers who have died in 2024

    The world lost many newsmakers recently, including entrepreneurs, entertainers, musicians and athletes.

    Wally Amos, the founder of the Famous Amos chain of cookie stores died Aug. 13.

    Television personality Phil Donahue passed away on Aug. 18.

    Gena Rowlands, who starred in several films directed by her late husband, John Cassavetes, died Aug. 14.

    World Golf Hall of Fame member Chi-Chi Rodriguez died Aug. 8.

    And on Sept. 3, James Darren, a singer who starred in "Gidget" early in his career, "T.J. Hooker" later in his career, and directed many notable television programs, passed away.
