American Red Cross hosts mobile blood drives for all to donate amidst critical blood shortage

KENNEWICK, Wash. -- After reports of a critical blood shortage in the area, the American Red Cross hosted mobile blood drives across the area from La Grande, Ore., to Yakima, Wash.

Anyone is able to donate and the process takes around 30 minutes to complete.

The organization said they are especially in need of type 'O' blood.

Donated blood gets transported to Red Cross facilities and will eventually make its way to patients in need. Apple Valley News Now was at the drive that took place in Kennewick at the Kennewick Irrigation District building on Monday, September 23.

"It's a lot easier for the public to come donate when we do mobile drives especially when we do businesses like this." Said Phlebotomist Sierra Robie, "a lot of people that work nine to fives can't get away from their job long enough to drive to whatever centers there are, so it gives people an opportunity to come donate when they otherwise wouldn't."

The blood drive is set up at a different location each day.
