Kadlec Regional Medical Center promotes firearm safety for Suicide Prevention Month event.

KENNEWICK, Wash. - Kadlec Regional Medical Center is hosting a lockbox event this weekend. September is national suicide prevention month. Kadlec, along with the Benton Franklin Health District and Youth Access and Resource Program, is holding a firearm lockbox giveaway this Saturday at Ranch and Home.

According to Courtney Armstrong with Kadlec, firearms are used in more than half of suicides in the nation--and growing. This is why Armstrong says holding events such as this one is important. “The purpose of the Event is to promote safe storage of firearms as a means to prevent suicide,” said Armstrong. “we will also be providing some safe storage education and suicide prevention materials.” The event is free and begins at the Kennewick Ranch and Home this Saturday from 10 to 2, or until all the lock boxes are gone. You have to be 21 years or older to receive one, and no ID is required.
