More clouds for Wednesday, cooling off slightly for Thursday and Friday

Today: We’ll have a couple different rounds of light showers in the Cascades for today. There’s even a round possible for the Blue Mountains and Blue Foothills by the early to mid evening. However, the rest of us should stay dry with partly to mostly cloudy skies. In spite of the increased cloud cover, we’ll still be about 5 degrees above average for early October. Expect low-50s in the Cascades, with mid to upper-60s for the Blue Mountains and Kittitas Valley. It’ll be in the mid-70s in the Yakima Valley, Lower Columbia Basin, and Blue Foothills. Wind gusts will pick up between 20-30 MPH for most spots.

Tonight: We’ll turn dry across the map by the late evening, but skies will still be mostly cloudy. With the passage of this cold front, overnight lows will trend a bit colder compared to Tuesday night. Expect mid-30s in the Cascades and Blues, with mid to upper-30s for the Kittitas and Yakima valleys. Lows will only drop into the low to mid-40s in the Lower Columbia Basin and Blue Foothills. Winds will calm down for the bulk of the area by the late evening, although they could still gust up to 20 MPH in the Kittitas Valley.

Extended: Thursday will be another day with patchy clouds, although it’ll be a completely dry forecast. However, it’ll be slightly hazier out there. Upper-level winds will shift out of the north and east, bringing more haze predominantly to the Blue Mountains and Blue Foothills. We’re not expecting any significant reductions in air quality, but it’s something we’re keeping close tabs on.

Overall, it’ll be a mostly dry forecast over the next 7-days. We can’t rule out some showers for next Tuesday, but there’s a long time between now and then to tweak details of that forecast in particular. In terms of our high temperatures? The ship will mostly stay steady in that regard. We’ll cool down to seasonal values by Thursday and Friday, and only slightly warm up into the weekend.
