Beloit Sky Carp lose opener of series at Wisconsin 7-3

APPLETON, Wis. — Jake Thompson ripped a one-out triple to right field in the first inning and Yiddi Cappe drove him in with a double.

Unfortunately, that great start was followed by a lot of misery as the Beloit Sky Carp fell to the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 7-3 at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium.

The slide started with Cappe on second. Cameron Barstad lined to second baseman Jadher Areinamo and he quickly threw to shortstop Gregory Barrias to double off Cappe.

The 1-0 lead quickly disappeared as well. After Beloit starting pitcher Jacob Miller (1-3) retired the first two Timber Rattlers in the bottom of the first, Barrios belted a single. Luke Adams followed with a double to left to score him and on the late throw to the plate, he moved to third. Matthew Woods then blasted a two-run homer for a 3-1 lead.

The inning still wasn’t over. Areinamo singled, Tayden Holl walked and Ramon Rodriguez ripped a run-scoring single for a 4-1 lead.

The Timber Rattlers tacked on single runs in the second and third innings. Adams had an RBI single to make it 5-1 and after reliever Josh White came on for Miller in the third, Rodriguez singled and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Dylan O’Rae.

Wisconsin right-handed starter Patricio Aquino (2-2) settled down after the first inning and worked six innings in all, allowing five hits and the lone run.

The TImber Rattlers made it 7-1 against reliever Ignacio Feliz in the seventh inning. He walked Areinamo and then sent him to second with a wild pitch. Areinamo stole third and scored on a sac fly by Rodriguez.

The Sky Carp finally answered in the eighth against reliever Joseph Hernandez. Osiris Johnson singled, stole second and scored on a double by Chase Luttrell to make it 7-2. Luttrell later scored on a groundout by Mark Coley II to make the final 7-3.
