APPLETON - A flash flood warning was issued Friday for Outagamie County, including Appleton and the surrounding Fox Cities, until 3:30 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.

The warning, which was prompted by radar tracking a series of thunderstorms through the region, warns of flash flooding in "small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, street and underpasses" as well as in low-lying areas or those with poor drainage.

As of 1:28 p.m., between 1 and 4 inches of rain had already fallen, according to the service, and another 2 inches are possible.

Locations at risk for flooding include Appleton, Kaukauna, Little Chute, New London, Kimberly, Black Creek, Darboy, Oneida, Greenville, Combined Locks, Wrightstown, Dale, Hortonville, Medina, Shiocton, Freedom, Twelve Corners, Binghamton, Mackville and Five Corners.

Smartphones in the Appleton area received a push notification from the Appleton Police Department at 1:06 p.m. Friday, stating there was a flood emergency in Appleton, and urging residents to stay home if possible.

Post-Crescent photographer Dan Powers observed some street flooding in the vicinity of Pershing and Viola Streets, south of Northland Avenue, and saw residents being evacuated from their homes by emergency personnel.

The National Weather Service alert reminds drivers to not drive into flooded streets, and report flooding to local law enforcement.

The storm also hit other portions of Wisconsin. In central Waupaca County, Manawa reported all roads in and out of the city were impassable and major flooding is expected downstream from the Manawa damn and Little Wolf River.
