APPLETON - For the second year in a row, Whisk & Arrow , a locally owned bakery in Appleton, is putting its own twist on a traditional farmer's market.

Owner Nea Hahn started the Whisk & Arrow markets last year, hosting them every week in the parking lot of the bakery at 1915 N. Richmond St.

"We did it every Wednesday, but it was a lot of work to keep up with," Hahn said. "This year, we just decided to focus on doing it once a month so that there are more vendors and entertainment."

The monthly markets kicked off in June and will happen on select Wednesdays through October from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Like typical farmer's markets, there will be local vendors selling merchandise, food and drinks. Whisk & Arrow stays open until 7 p.m. during the markets, giving attendees the opportunity to still purchase sweet treats.

What sets Whisk & Arrow's markets apart is the different themes set for each one.

If you missed the Christmas in July market on July 10, which featured a beach-themed photobooth, inflatable palm trees, Christmas-themed treats and a vacation-ready Santa Claus, you can still look forward to the pet market on August 14.

"We encourage our guests to bring their pets out with them, however, pets are not allowed inside the shop," Hahn said.

Bernardo Cano, a local harmonica and percussions artist, will be the entertainment for the pet market. There will be 20 local vendors present, some selling pet-themed crafts, including Detailed by Emily , hobbymutt , and Silly Willy Pawtraits.

"Every market features 20 vendors but we are hoping by next year to have more farmers join us," Hahn said. "Right now, the markets feature mostly crafters and a small number of florists and some farmers."

Whisk & Arrow works with locally owned food trucks to provide food options at the markets. The pet market will feature Zoua's Fresh Egg Rolls , Diablo's Tacos and The Wandering Table .

"We try to do a nice variety of food trucks," Hahn said. "Because we're only doing five markets this season, we wanted to make sure we didn't have the same cultural foods at every market so we really switched it up."

Food trucks and vendors change at each market.

Future market themes include the Kinder market in September, a celebration of children, and the glow market in October, which will also be a celebration of Whisk & Arrow's seventh anniversary.

A full list of vendors and more information for each market can be found on Whisk & Arrow's Facebook page.
