The Columbia County Sheriff's Office is investigating after the Dollar General on Appling Harlem Road reported a pattern of missing or short bank bags.

Deputies responded to the store Monday for a theft and spoke with the district manager for Dollar General.

She told deputies a deposit for May 31 was short money and when she contacted Regions Bank, she found out the deposit bag was ripped open when it was received in the drop box, according to an incident report. She said Regions provided a report of the condition of how the bank bag was found and the deposit was missing $1,130.

Deputies noted the store deposit that was supposed to be made Friday was also missing, according to the report. The district manager said she contacted Regions and confirmed they don't have the $1,726.47 deposit.
