Someone Is Leaving Bologna in Mailboxes Across North Alabama

Is it a prank? A science experiment? A really strange random act of kindness? North Alabama residents in two different communities have discovered something very odd inside their mailboxes: a single slice of bologna.

The Cullman Daily recently posted to Facebook, "Someone has been going around on CR-25 and placing bologna in the mail boxes." However, that's not the only place in north Alabama where people have found bologna in their mailbox.

A resident in the Cloverdale Community in Florence says the same thing has been going on there. She said, "I don't know if this is a prank or what, but they need to stop. It's nasty. Me and two of my neighbors found bologna in our mailboxes."

Although most people viewed the act as a harmless prank, several people pointed out that the bologna can attract ants to the mailbox. The Cullman mail carrier weighed in on this:

I’m the carrier out here today… what upset me is some of the older people’s mail covered in fire ants. I’m sure it’s kids being funny but it really wasn’t. - K. Myers

The Florence resident, also upset over the ants attracted to the bologna found in her mailbox, says she has a solution for the next time someone wants to gift her mailbox with cold cuts. "I've put up a camera. I'll find out who's doing this."

Trying to find out more about this weird act, I asked several teenagers in Florence if the "bologna in the mailbox" was any kind of prank they were familiar with or some sort of viral prank on Tiktok.
