A local writer whose recent book focuses on early residents of Patrick County will be giving a talk later this month at the Ararat, Virginia, Ruritan Club.

Beverly Belcher Woody, a writer for Patrick County’s The Enterprise and author of “Patrick Pioneers Part One,” will be talking about people and places in the Ararat area from her book.

The event is part of Tom Talks History Series sponsored by the Ararat Ruritan Club and local historian Tom Perry. The talk will be a fundraiser for the Perry Family Scholarship that gives a Patrick County High School Senior from the Dan River District a $500 scholarship for college after they write a 1,000 word essay about the historical topic of their choosing.

Admission to the talk is free and donations will be accepted to the Perry Family Scholarship, which was started to honor Erie Meredith and Betty Hobbs Perry, parents Thomas D. “Tom” Perry. Thus far the organization has eight scholarships totaling $3,500.

“Patrick Pioneers Part One” is available for $19.99 on Amazon. Autographed copies are available at https://laurel-hill-publishing-llc.square.site/
