Vargas leads Bacon in campaign cash after Q2 in U.S. House race
OMAHA — Democratic donors in and beyond Nebraska’s borders are focusing more money and attention this year on the Omaha-area rematch race for the U.S. House. From April 1 to June 30, Democratic challenger State Sen. Tony Vargas of Omaha outraised the four-term Republican incumbent, U.S. Rep. Don Bacon of Papillion.
Mason City Homecoming will take place this Weekend
MASON CITY- Mason City Homecoming begins Friday and ends Sunday evening. On Friday, July 19, the celebration starts off with a hometown meal at the community building. Then there is an ice cream social at the First Baptist Church at 6 p.m with homemade ice cream from John Kohls. At 6:30 turtle races and kids games will start on Main Street, followed by a cake walk. The cornhole tournament starts at 7:30 on Main Street. From 9:30 to 11:30 is the Teen Dance, which costs $3 per person and $5 per couple.
One person dead after train, van crash near Kearney
KEARNEY, Neb. (KSNB) - A man is dead after a van-train crash near Kearney on Thursday. The Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office says the crash happened around 12:30 p.m. According to a preliminary investigation, a van was traveling westbound on US Highway 30 east of Cherry Avenue just outside the Kearney city limits. The sheriff’s office said during that time, a Union Pacific train was backing up on a track that crosses the highway and collided with the van.

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - A white balloon floating around the Lincoln area caught the attention of many people with craned necks on Wednesday. The balloon, hovering over 11 miles above the ground, drifted around Lancaster County throughout the morning and afternoon.
