Camping, water access costs in Manistee National Forest could rise
Usage of certain Manistee National Forest developed recreation sites used for camping and water recreation is expected to increase in cost if proposed rates take effect. Some Manistee National Forest sites that have previously been free and some that had had fees are listed as potentially increasing in an effort to align with higher operation costs.

Saints looking forward to another busy weekend
MANISTEE — Now that they have taken the lead in the Gratiot County Baseball League, the question facing the Manistee Saints is if they can hold it until the finish. Milo Jon Karhu, 85, of Lake Ann, Michigan and The Villages Florida, passed away on Sunday, June 23, 2024, at his home with his loving family by his side. His passing came just a week after the unexpected death of his beloved wife, Wilma “Billie Jean” Karhu, likely due to a broken heart. The two were inseparable soulmates, deeply in love and rarely apart. They are now reunited in heaven.

Open house July 23 to discuss 2027-2028 US-31 rebuilding project in Manistee
TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. - The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) has scheduled an open house public meeting to discuss 2027-2028 plans to rebuild a 4.8-mile section of US-31 from Stronach Road in Filer Township, continuing north through the city of Manistee, and ending just north of M-55 in Manistee Township, Manistee County.
