Man accused of pointing rifle at another man after an argument in Brethren
BRETHREN — The Manistee County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an alleged felonious assault on Friday. They said the victim was working in their yard in Dickson Township around noon when a pickup truck pulled up. They told deputies that the two of them got into an argument, and the man in the truck, from Canton, pulled his truck down Maple Avenue and pointed a rifle at the victim. When deputies arrived, they said the truck was still there. According to deputies, the driver started heading towards them. They gave loud instructions for him to stop and get out of the truck, but he refused and drove back down the road. Deputies said after a while, the man drove north on the railroad grade and was stopped by law enforcement in Brethren. He was arrested without incident.

FRANKFORT — Kids can get out and drop a lure this weekend in Benzie County. The Frankfort-Elberta Chamber is hosting ‘Take a Kid Fishing’ event June 21st-2nd. There’ll be a nitecrawler event Friday the 22nd around 9pm where kids can gather their own worms then Saturday morning they’ll get out on the water to catch some fish starting at 8am.
Police handle 'possible armed suspect situation' in Brethren
BRETHREN — Manistee County law enforcement units dealt with a "possible armed suspect situation" in the village of Brethren on Friday. A Code Red alert issued at 12:45 p.m. Friday asked people to avoid the area and said Brethren High School had been placed on lock down due to the situation.
Manistee City Council votes to remove courts, install sidewalk at Sands Park
MANISTEE — Manistee City Council took action Tuesday to make the Sands Park area safer for youth. Council members voted 5-2 in favor of spending $4,239 less than half of the funding for improvements to the park, up to $45,000, and entering into an agreement with Manistee Area Public Schools and Swidorski Bros. Excavating for the project.
