Police handle 'possible armed suspect situation' in Brethren
BRETHREN — Manistee County law enforcement units dealt with a "possible armed suspect situation" in the village of Brethren on Friday. A Code Red alert issued at 12:45 p.m. Friday asked people to avoid the area and said Brethren High School had been placed on lock down due to the situation.
Manistee Arts & Crafts Show set for July 6-7 at Armory Youth Project
MANISTEE — The Manistee Arts & Crafts Show is a revamp of an old event coming to the 2024 Manistee National Forest Festival. The new craft show will be taking place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on July 6 and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on July 7 at the Armory Youth Project, located at 555 First St. It will feature artists and craftspeople selling a wide variety of their creations.

Buckley’s Aiden Harrand heads to Wake Forest with ten State Championships to her name
BUCKLEY — Aiden Harrand was born to run. She started from a young age, and her mom was the cross country coach at Buckley. In her four years at Buckley, Harrand was won ten MHSAA state championships. She’s won the mile all four years, 2 titles in the 800, 2 in cross country, 1 in the 3200 and 1 in the 400. Harrand was even running new races her senior year. “I ran the 400, so getting that title, I mean it was my last season, so why not get a new title, I guess,” said Harrand.
