A popular pop up concept in Humboldt County is working on its first brick-and-mortar location. Kogiri Thai Fusion Korean BBQ has filed plans to take over the former Golden Harvest Cafe space at 1062 G Street and is currently awaiting permit approval.

Kogiri is the brain child of Alexander Yang , who was born to Hmong immigrants and earned culinary arts degree in Fresno. The brick-and-mortar rendition will serve a prix-fixe menu that much resembles a Restaurant Week format where guests can choose what they’d like to have for each course, starting with salad and appetizer, followed by three types, a total of 1.5lb grilled meat served as the main course. According to a previous coverage on the Lost Coast Outpost , the restaurant will also serve alcoholic beverages, including shoju bombs.

“We will rotate the menu seasonally: one for summer through fall and a different one from winter through spring,” Yang told What Now Sacramento, adding the team is also contemplating possibly offering hot pot options as long as they can find the right equipment to provide the desired dining experience.

Kogiri originally hoped to open by this April, but permitting has taken longer than anticipated. Yang told What Now Sacramento that, if everything goes smoothly, he now hopes to open by this winter in November or December or the beginning of 2025. Until then, Kogiri will continue to go around town as a pop up concept if opportunities rise.

“I’m not particularly reaching out to people, but I am getting folks asking for collaboration because I am well connected with many local chefs,” Yang said over the phone, adding that if someone asks him to provide the food for a suitable event, he will most likely be participating.

Those eager to follow Kogiri on their brick and mortar journey or catch them at their next pop-up event should follow the business on Facebook . A new website is also in the work and will launch once construction begins.
