Lyon county moves on from Annex building
ROCK RAPIDS—After more than a year of teetering back and forth on potential projects, flooding may have helped Lyon County finally find a solution for the Annex Building. Located off First Avenue in Rock Rapids, the Annex Building was home to county’s economic development, public health and engineering departments. The 56-year-old building needed updates to replace the heating, air conditioning and ventilation systems. Renovation plans also included an elevator lift and ramp to bring it up to code with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Register Now for Fall Classes at Iowa Central
While the warmth of the summer is in full swing it is a great time to turn up the heat on your future by furthering your education. Iowa Central Community College offers a wide variety of programs and will begin classes on August 26th. Registration for classes is open and you can start the process of attending Iowa Central with one of the many college admissions representatives. “Our team is here each weekday and ready to help prospective students enroll in classes that will put them on a path to success,” shares Tom Beneke, Vice President of Student Services. Iowa Central offers classes in-person and on-line. “While many students thrive in our face-to-face classes, we do offer many on-line options. Our flexible learning options gives every student a path to earning their degree or certificate,” notes Beneke.
City Working to Find Reasons for Sewer Backups
–The City of Algona is working with a pair of engineering firms to try and find solutions for residents impacted by sewer back ups earlier this year. Deputy City Administrator Barb Smith tells KLGA News that the city has WHKS and Bolton & Menk looking for ways to identify how the sewer system is being inundated in certain areas of town.
Algona Couple are July “1440” Award Recipients
–An Algona couple are the latest recipients of the ”1440 Citizen of the Month” from the Kossuth County Sheriff’s Office. Kossuth County Sheriff Roger Fisher announced this week that Ray and Marilyn Nielsen are the “1440” recipients for the month of July, as they were nominated for their years of service to their church and community.

Stellar Sports Complex Opens in Garner
Stellar Industries, a 100% employee-owned and -operated manufacturer of high-quality mechanic trucks, cranes, tire service trucks, hooklifts, trailers and service truck and van accessories, recently took part in the grand opening of the Stellar Sports Complex. Carroll Chamber Readies For Ridiculous Day, Live + Local, And Mini Golf In Depot Park On Thursday
Tomorrow (Thursday) marks a big day for the Carroll Chamber of Commerce and its affiliate group, the Carroll Young Professionals (CYP), as Ridiculous Day, Live + Local, and mini-golf coincide near the downtown district. The Ridiculous Day sale features stellar discounts and dozens of businesses throughout the community. Chamber staff will give away $35 in chamber bucks every half hour from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. To be eligible to win, participants must register using a ticket from one of the participating businesses, a list of which is included with this story on our website. CYP opens its mini-golf course in the Depot Centre Park at 5:30 p.m., where adults and kids can golf for just $5. Live + Local begins nearby at 6 p.m., featuring classic rock from Hap Hazard, who will be playing until 9 p.m. Live + Local is a BYOB-style event, meaning attendees can grab their coolers and lawn chairs to enjoy the free show.
