From the July 13, 1989, Pagosa SUN — WELCOME CHANGE — Carl Bolt finally had something to smile about Wednesday morning. The water gauge at Bolt’s U.S. Weather Station showed .55 inches of rain fell Tuesday night. It was the first significant precipitation for Pagosa Springs since early March. After eight days of record setting high temperatures — 94,93,95,98,99 (July 6), 96,96,93 — the high on Monday, July 10 dropped to 84.5. Bolt said the cool air and rain were a welcome change.

Back in about 2009, when many citizens were criticizing Pagosa Area Water and Sanitation District (PAWSD) for its purchase of the $10 million Running Iron Ranch, and making existing customers pay for the purchase… for a future reservoir that the taxpayers had never approved… one of the PAWSD Board members defended the property purchase.
A DIFFERENT POINT OF VIEW: The Dry Gulch Reservoir Plan; Good Money After Bad
Having read all of Bill Hudson’s eight-part narrative about the proposed water reservoir at the site of the former Running Iron Ranch, I make the following observations:. First, it appears to me the ‘studies’ allegedly justifying the original purchase of the property for the future reservoir were part of an elaborate plan to pull off a simple old fashioned American hustle. Some local private landowners sold to the public for more than they’d have gotten for it from a private purchaser. Selling land to the government at an inflated price is a long-standing American tradition going back to post-revolutionary war land speculators.
Duece Martinez arrested again in Cortez on warrant and for violating protection order
