Douglas County town celebrates their youngest neighbors

ARCOLA, Ill. (WCIA) — Sunday was Children’s Day, and Arcola is highlighting the little people that make their town so great.

Sunday afternoon’s annual event allowed kids to enjoy a day at the park with food, a splashpad and fun houses. People from all across the area spent part of the day at Moore Park. There was even a sensory-friendly time for families in the morning.

Mayor Jesus Garza said it is a day recognized across the country.

“Every city celebrates that,” he said. “The reason we like to celebrate it is because our children are the future of Arcola — and we need to take care of the kids, you know?”

The town had raffle prizes for kids, including toys and bikes. There was also face painting, games and music.
