DALLAS, Texas — Former Texas State Representative Jim Pitts passed away shortly before midnight on July 20, 2024, at Baylor Hospital in Dallas, surrounded by his loved ones. Jim Pitts dedicated his life to public service, representing House District 10 in the Texas House of Representatives from 1993 to 2015. His district comprised Ellis County, Hill County, and a portion of Henderson County. During his tenure, he served as Chairman of Appropriations from 2005 to 2007 and from 2009 to 2015. Representative Pitts was known for his commitment to education, fiscal responsibility, and advocating for the needs of his constituents.

Former Library Transforms into Fulshear Annex, Including Fulshear Community Health Clinic
Today, the Fort Bend County Health and Human Services (FBCHHS) Community Health Clinic opened its doors at the Fulshear Annex, the former location of the Bob Lutts Fulshear/Simonton Branch Library. Beryl, the first major hurricane of the year, has finally dissipated, but it’s still casting a long shadow in Texas. As of last Tuesday afternoon, more than a week after the storm made landfall in the state, more than 100,000 electricity customers still didn’t have power — the vast majority of them in the Houston metropolitan area. Now intense heat and humidity have blanketed the region, leaving many vulnerable residents without the cooling they need to endure the hot, muggy weather with the heat index topping 100 degrees Fahrenheit.
Texas crash leaves one dead, another seriously injured
PECOS, Texas — A head-on collision on FM 1053 near mile marker 384 resulted in one death and one serious injury Saturday morning. The Texas Department of Public Safety reported that the crash involved a 2015 Ford F-150 and a 2024 GMC Sierra. Donnavin Brown, a 21-year-old from Odessa, Texas, was driving the Ford F-150 southbound when his vehicle veered into the northbound lane. Nicholas Calloway, a 25-year-old from Houston, Texas, was driving the GMC Sierra and attempted to avoid the collision by moving into the southbound lane. However, Brown's vehicle returned to the southbound lane, striking Calloway's vehicle head-on. Calloway was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Braden. Brown sustained serious injuries and was transported to Midland Memorial Hospital.
